Uniqueness of Syro-Malabar Liturgy: 

Speaker: Fr Francis Pullukattu

This liturgical aspect of the Syro-Malabar Church is a very important component of our faith. An insight into the history of our tradition and the formation of the liturgy will be explored in this stream which will result in a deeper understanding of the Holy Mass and other sacraments in the Syro-Malabar Church. This stream will be presented by Fr Francis Pullukattu, Vicar of St Euphrasia Syro-Malabar Parish, Adelaide North.

Go beyond the Youth Room:

Speaker(s): Sojin Sebastian & SMYM National Team

‘Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.’ [1 Timothy 4:12]. The importance of the youth being active in the parish is of an upmost priority for the Syro-Malabar Church. This stream will explore how the involvement of the youth can enhance the communal aspect of the parish, as their strengthened faith can set an example for future generations to come. This will be led by Sojin Sebastian who is the Syro-Malabar Youth Apostolate Director. He will also be accompanied by members of the SMYM National Team.

The Sword of the Spirit

Speaker: Kelvin Thomas

‘Indeed, the Word of God is living and active sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart’ [Hebrews 4:12]. The importance and the power of the only weapon given to us by God in Ephesians 6:17 will be explored and emphasised so that we can actively and effectively use this weapon in our day-to-day lives. This stream will be presented by Kelvin Thomas, who is an active member of the Syro-Malabar Youth Movement.

Discern God’s Will:

Presented by: Fr Kevin Mundackal

There will be a point in one’s life where they will ponder on the direction that God would like them to take. This can be in terms of education, career, marriage or priesthood. This workshop is it to help you to listen and to be aware of the direction that God wants you take in stages where you are required to take a decision towards the next step in your life. Fr Kevin Mundackal will be leading this workshop; he is the first American-born Syro-Malabar priest ordained in the St Thomas Syro-Malabar diocese of Chicago.

Young People and the Church:

The Synod fathers wrote to the young people after the Synod on ‘Young People, the faith and Vocational Discernment’ (October 2018) “The Church and the world urgently need your enthusiasm. Be sure to make the most fragile people, the poor and those wounded by life your travelling companions. You are the present; be a brighter future.”Hear more what the Bishops from all around the world discussed at this year Synod on Youth is regarding the needs of the youth and how to cater towards it. Bishop Joseph Pandarasseril is the Syro-Malabar Youth Commission Chairman.

Empathy – Pathway to Success:

Presented by: Dr Cyriac Mathew

Empathy is the experience of understanding another person’s thoughts, feelings and condition from their point of view, rather than from your own. By developing an empathic approach, you improve your people skills which will be very helpful for developing strong leadership skills and great teamwork abilities. In this workshop, you will be able to discuss ways to develop empathy and learn how Empathy is an essential skill for your Success. This workshop will be led by Dr Cyriac Mathew who is a senior psychiatrist and a well-known workshop presenter.

Purity in Relationships:

Presented by: Dony Peter

This workshop is designed to open up discussions regarding Christ centred relationships that glorify God, giving importance to purity. It will also explore the ways were sin can creep up which will damage the relationship with the heavenly Father as well future marital relationships. Dony Peter will be leading this workshop; he is a leadership consultant and a professional life coach based in Melbourne.

Overcoming Addictions

Presented by: Dr Abish Antony

One of the biggest issues the youth face today is being held down by addictions that hinder them from having a proper relationship with the Lord. This workshop will give you an insight into how to break free and overcome addictions that one may face in life and also how to avoid the traps that satan has set to derail the children of God. This workshop will be led by Dr Abish Antony who is a psychiatrist working in both the public and private sectors. He is a passionate youth evangelist and is actively involved in the Jesus Youth Movement. Currently, he is the national formation coordinator of Jesus Youth Australia.

Bible vs Science:

Presented by: Fr Baiju Thomas MGL

Science is often pitted against the Bible. In today’s world, we are faced with many questions on how science and our faith co-exist; we are faced with many questions that shake the foundation of our very own faith. This workshop will be a good opportunity to query the doubts that come between the bible and science. The workshop will be led by Fr Baiju Thomas MGL, who is a well known Bible quiz master and the Assistant Parish Priest at St. Benedict’s Narrabundah ACT.

Celebrate Your Family:

Benny Sebastian & Beena Benny

According to the Catholic Church, family life is an initiation into life in the society. The family is the community in which, from childhood, one can learn moral values, begin to honour God. This workshop will be discussing the importance of family in regard to our faith and society. It will be led by the Melbourne based couple who are very well active in the Syro-Malabar Church and the Youth Ministry.
